2020 Indiana AIDS Walk
Sunday, September 27

Core to the Indiana AIDS Walk and our parent organization, The Health Foundation of Greater Indianapolis, is a commitment to public health. With the health of Hoosiers in mind, our board of directors made the decision to host the 2020 Indiana AIDS Walk virtually.

While we refrain from gathering as a large group this year, we and our family of supporters remain dedicated to the Gregory R. Powers Direct Emergency Financial Assistance (DEFA) program. Walk volunteers and staff plan to put the dedication to work and create innovative ways to connect people to the mission and each other.

Further, we know going virtual with the Indiana AIDS Walk in 2020 is necessary to secure best health outcomes for vulnerable populations in Indiana.

Why Will You Walk?
Some Indiana AIDS Walk participants walk to remember a loved one lost. Some walk to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS. Others walk to help out a stranger in need. On Sunday, September 22, you can help us to raise money for the Gregory R. Powers Direct Emergency Financial Assistance (DEFA) Fund. DEFA pays for emergency expenses for Hoosiers living with HIV/AIDS who are at or below the poverty level. Last year, DEFA funds were used to cover utility payments, keep a family from becoming homeless, doctors’ visits, prescription drug refills, bus passes even to replace a battery-powered wheelchair.

Who Participates?
Families, friends, businesses, civic leaders, fraternities, sororities, churches, educators, volunteers, corporations, children, pets, clubs, associations anyone who wants to help those living with HIV/AIDS in emergency situations.

More than 800 people participated last year and our goal is 1,000 walkers in 2020!

Activities include:

  • Individual Fundraising Award (on social media)
  • Phil Denton Memorial Team Fundraising Award (on social media)
  • We updated the list of fundraising tips with social distancing in mind. Included in this year's tips are recommendations for how to use social media to fundraise. If you decide you still need a good long walk, here is a link to some of the best trails in Indiana. Perfect for social distancing.
