Why I walk
Welcome to my donation page for the 2022 Indiana AIDS Walk! The 2022 Indiana AIDS Walk will be held on Sunday September 25. I've set a $500 individual fundraising goal, which will help support our Team goal.
Back in December of 2020, I had the opportunity to join the HIV realm with my current position in the Division. Previously working in sexual violence prevention, I was thrilled to bring the skills I have acquired to the team. My time with the HIV team at IDOH was extremely special to me. I witnessed the dedication from professionals around the state who shared the same, collective goal. This work inspired me - and this was something I had not expected.
In late 2021, I transitioned out of my role at IDOH. While I enjoyed my time at IDOH, I had missed prevention work. Prevention is what opened the public health field to me, what my focus was in my Masters program, and is what my first professional role entailed. I knew I wanted and needed to stay within this field. Luckily, my current role with Step-Up, Inc. opened up, and I could not be happier.
In my current role, I have the privilege to work in a field that directly impacts the LGBTQ+ community, one that I live and participate in. I have the privilege in working with the most dedicated colleagues, all of whom push me to be a better professional. But most importantly, I have the privilege in witnessing the outpouring love and support from the clients we serve, and much of this is due to the support from DEFA funds.
The reasons outlined above are why I am walking to support the Indiana AIDS Fund. DEFA funds provide dire assistance/resources to Hoosiers living with HIV through our ASOs. The impact DEFA funds have on Hoosiers living with HIV is unmeasurable. We must continue to support the Indiana AIDS Fund not only for DEFA funds, but also in recognition that a vaccine for HIV has yet to be developed. Thus, we must do what we can to support all Hoosiers living with HIV.
Thank you for taking the time to read why I am walking this year. I would greatly appreciate it if you would consider supporting my efforts with a donation today. Any amount helps. Thanks for your consideration and support!
